The South Korean leader has be rather harsh on the North for their attack threatening war. Many nations disagree with this statement saying that it was out of anger and the South truly wishes to avoid armed conflict. The South has reinforced it's position on the islands off the Korea Peninsula and started to take part in a massive show of force with the USA. The situation does not seem favourable to the North, however they do partially have China's support. It is possible that the Korea War could resume and redraw the lines of the Cold War.

Great Start, Alex. A fascinating, if somewhat frightening issue. The events described remind me of the events leadin up to the outbreak of World War One. Let's hope that that does not turn out to be the case.
ReplyDeleteIn part, the success of your blog will depend on your ability to trend and comment intelligently on the events as they unfold: You should now be posting at least twice a week.
You should also begin the process of contructing a history of the conflict (the Korean War, and its antecedents - the nature of the "hermit kingdom", the Korean character, and the region.
It would be good to organize your posts by label, using labels like: "history," "key figures," "Korean War," "culture," "military Matters," etc. You decide. Carefully choose articles, but then comment and construct the history in your own words.
Finally, make sure when you're selecting articles and stories to comment on that you select a variety (some should be from Korea, from China, Japan and of course Canada and the US.
You should also pay careful attention to Canada's involvement (now and historically), whic is now being discuss.
I'm really looking forward to following your blog.
This is definately an important issue to discuss because if it does lead to a cold war between North and South Korea, it could lead to some really serious issues involving human rights and involvement of the rest of the world. Considering North Korea esspecially being such a military run country, the result of a war could be very damaging to korea.
ReplyDeleteMy only question currently, Alex. Is what, if anything, has happened since your last posting?
